In the Air
Flying Tours
During high season (December through April), Island Air offers flightseeing
tours of the islands. These are conducted by Seabourne Flightseeing Adventures
and cost about $60 for a 30-minute tour. For information, contact Island Air at (345) 949-0241.
Day Trips to Little Cayman & Cayman Brac.
When you’re ready to see a more secluded side of the Cayman Islands, consider
a day trip to Cayman Brac or Little Cayman. The Sister Islands are excellent
destinations for serious fishermen and divers and a good way to sample the
islands (and perhaps consider them for your next trip).
Flights depart Grand Cayman in the early morning, stopping first on Little
Cayman and continuing on to Cayman Brac. Once on the ground, you can rent a
vehicle (a jeep on Little Cayman) and enjoy a self-guided tour of the island,
birdwatching, scuba diving, snorkeling, or fishing. Guided tours are available
on Little Cayman; a special package including air, tour, and lunch is offered
through Island Air. With twice-daily service from Grand Cayman, Island Air
(Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; 345-949-5252, fax 345-949-7044)
departs on the 45-minute flight at 8 a.m. and 3:50 p.m.; return flights depart
at 9:55 a.m. and 5:45 p.m. The day-trip package costs US $105 (US $84 for
travelers under 12).
Parasailing
If you’re ready to enjoy a bird’s-eye view of Grand Cayman, sign up for a
parasail ride over Seven Mile Beach. This is the only place in the Cayman
Islands where parasailing is offered. Cost is about $45. See the Seven Mile
Beach section, page 144, for a list of operators.
