Adventures Underwater

Scuba Diving
Just beyond the sand, much of Seven Mile Beach drops off into spectacular dive sites.

The Aquarium: With a name like The Aquarium, this 30- to 50-foot dive has to be good. Look for a wide variety of fish off the upper end of Seven Mile Beach. Goatfish, snapper, parrotfish, and more await on this beginner-level dive.

Wreck of the Oro Verde: About half a mile off the beach at Villas of the Galleon, the Oro Verde is a favorite with beginners because of its shallow position (25 to 50 feet). The ship was used by drug smugglers (Oro Verde means "green gold" in Spanish, so we'll let you draw your own conclusions about its cargo) and in 1980 was scuttled. Today, the gold lies in its rich marine life; the high that divers get from this myriad of color is a completely legal one.
