Where to Eat

To cut food costs, many guests on Little Cayman opt for buying a few groceries. The lone grocery store is the Village Square, next to the car rental agency. Open 9-1 and 4-6, Monday through Saturday, the store stocks a little of everything: house wares, bait and tackle, VCR rentals, medicines, and groceries.

A surprising number of resorts feature top-notch dining. Pirates Point showcases the talents of Cordon Bleu-trained owner-chef Gladys Howard and serves up gourmet cuisine; the Southern Cross Club features a Culinary Institute of America-trained chef. The island has only one stand-alone restaurant.

Hungry Iguana, (345) 948-0007, $-$$. The Hungry Iguana is near the airport. The namesake of the seaside eatery is an iguana often seen at the airport. To honor the hungry herbivore, the restaurant sports a 40-foot mural of the local lizard. Continental buffet breakfasts start the day; lunch and dinner feature jerk chicken, grouper sandwiches, prime rib, and burgers.
