Ristorante Pappagallo, Conch Point Rd., (345) 949-1119 or 949-3479. $$-$$$. The beauty of this restaurant hints at the specialness of a meal here. A thatch roof, made from over 100,000 thatch palm leaves, shields a building designed from bamboo, local stones, and marble. Parrots, cockatoos, and macaws lend their voices to create an exotic atmosphere that's echoed in the setting: the restaurant is perched on the shores of a small natural lake in a bird sanctuary. Meals here are special, featuring northern Italian cuisine. Homemade pastas, seafood, and fine wines make this restaurant well worth the drive for those staying in the Seven Mile Beach area. Dinner is served from 6 to 10:30 p.m. daily.

Liberty's, West Bay, (345) 949-3226. $-$$. For a real taste of local food, come by Liberty's, an eatery that bills itself as a "native style restaurant." All-you-can-eat buffets on Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday draw diners for conch stew, turtle stew, barbecue chicken, curry chicken, rice and beans, and more. Lunch is served daily 11:30 to 4 p.m.; dinner served 6-10.
Seafood Cracked Conch by the Sea, Northwest Point Rd., West Bay, (345) 945-5217. $$. Next door to the turtle farm, this restaurant must be relying on its position to draw business. Even by Caymanian standards, drinks are expensive (CI $6 or US $8 for a rum punch). The restaurant is popular for its all-you-can-eat specials, but we never found out how good it was: the manager insisted that all outdoor tables were reserved... even though three-fourths were vacant.
