Where to Stay

Hotels & Resorts
Spanish Bay Reef, (345) 949-3765, fax (345) 949-1842. $$. Located on the far northwest end of West Bay, Spanish Bay Reef is a good choice for those seeking an all-inclusive package. Tucked on a sandy stretch of beach shaded by tall palms and willowy casuarina trees, the resort is casual and fun. The sea here is somewhat choppy, although a barrier creates a swimming area, but this resort is a favorite with divers. Dive sites include No Name Wall, Chinese Wall, Lemon Drop-Off, Grand Canyon, The Pinnacles, and more, each offering a peek at an undersea world filled with marine life, fascinating formations, and beautiful corals. All rooms have air-conditioning and private balcony or patio and satellite TV. The resort features the Spanish Main Restaurant and Calico Jack's Poolside Bar as well as a private beach, freshwater pool, Jacuzzi, and dock. The all-inclusive package covers all meals and beverages (well drinks only, no wine or champagne), use of sightseeing cars on a shared basis, bicycle, introductory scuba and snorkeling lessons, unlimited scuba diving from shore for certified divers (including tanks and weight belt), boat dives (usually a two-tank dive), airport transfers, and all taxes and gratuities. The three-night diver package (standard room) starts at $684 per person ($585 for non-divers) and includes two boat dives. Low season rates, from the end of June through August, drop to $616 for divers and $527 for non-divers.

Condos
Magnificent Dive Dump, and fax (345) 949-3787. $ (up to three guests). With a name like this, who couldn't like this little place? It has only five units but low prices keep dedicated divers coming back. Located on the northwest end of West Bay, these condos offer shore diving and snorkeling and a dive operator on site. Rooms have air-conditioning, ceiling fans, telephone, TV, kitchens, and maid service.

Guest Houses
White Haven Inn Guest House, (345) 949-1064, fax (345) 945-4890. $. Located on Batabano Road in a quiet residential neighborhood, this modest guest house offers a slice of real Caymanian life at a reasonable price. Three guest units feature air-conditioning, ceiling fans, telephone, televisions, and VCRs. A full American breakfast is included, along with free airport pick-up. After a day out scuba diving and exploring the island, guests can enjoy quiet walks in this neighborhood, where cattle peacefully reside in large fields.
