Nightlife

As many visitors rise early for morning dives, nightlife in the Cayman Islands is generally quiet. The most activity is found along Seven Mile Beach, however, where you can club-hop, enjoy some live bands, and even take in a comedy show.

Treasure Island Resort is also popular for nightly entertainment, with Long John Silver's Nightclub and Tradewinds Lobby Bar, featuring a steel drum band.

The young crowd enjoys action at Sharkey's Boca Bar (345-945-5366). The Planet Nightclub (345-949-7169) rocks with soca, calypso, salsa, and reggae and has sports night every Monday.

Sunset cruises are another popular way to wind down the day. The Cockatoo (345-949-7884 or 949-7621) offers sunset sails for CI $20. The two-hour cruise starts at 5 p.m. and free pick-up and drop-off at area hotels is available. BYOB welcomed. The Spirit of Ppalu (345-949-8745) departs from near the

Hyatt Regency for cocktail and dinner cruises.

If you're ready to enjoy a quiet, cool evening, catch a film at Cinema I & II on West Bay Road (across from the Marriott); (345) 949-4011 for listings and times.

NAUTILUS SUBMARINE
Although Grand Cayman has long been the home of the Atlantis submarine, it is now home base for the Nautilus (345-945-1355). Since April, this 80-foot semi-submersible submarine, docked at Calico Jack's in George Town, has provided a one-hour tour to view the rich marine life of the bay. The sub goes out about three-fourths of a mile offshore offering visitors a chance to view two shipwrecks and to watch a diver feed a variety of tropical fish. Good for families with children and for anyone claustrophobic. Tours are offered at 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. daily, with additional tours scheduled on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday mornings as needed. The tours are priced at $35 per person and $19 for childrens.

The Nautilus also offers a unique tour on Thursday evenings. The Murder Mystery Theater is scheduled from 6:30 to 8 p.m. and includes a professional actor who interacts with the audience in trying to solve a "murder" on board. Unlimited hors d'oeuvres as well as beer, wine, and rum punch are available throughout the evening. These tours are priced at $43.75.
